So, y’all know how I’m always saying this is not the place for me and how I feel like I don’t belong here…. blah, blah, blah… yadda, yadda, yadda… well no one wants to hear that 🙊 Ha! Ha!

Anyway, my friend… ya know the same ones that I’m always talking about said, “You have to look at it in a different light… “FIND YOUR REASON”. I thought about that and was like… what does she mean by “find my reason”. So, I thought about…

Find my reason…

Well, I’ve been wanting to learn how to sign for a very long time. I mean, I see people talking/signing in public and just wonder…what are they saying? Anyway, for YEARS standing in the hall on duty, I’ve watched these ladies talk to each other…signing. One of them, I actually had her daughter in my class one year. Is this my reason? This week, I stopped and asked one of them, if she taught sign language. I won’t get into the details of what she said but my follow up was… Not sit down in the classroom, teach… Just like when you pass me in the hall, teach me something… a phrase. Like once or twice a week. SHE SAID, “YES” and my lessons began!!! My first lessons were: How are you? and Fine, Thank-you. Let me tell you… I practiced that thing!!!!! I was so excited. When she saw me again that day she, she asked me, “How are you” and of course I responded, “Fine, thank-You”. ::Pats self on back”. Obviously, I’d caught on quicker than she’d expected because lunch rolled around and while I was on duty doing an AWESOME job of keeping the kids well behaved and organized while purchasing snacks (🙄) she taught me, “Are you hungry” and “Are you thirsty” YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO this thing is moving along way faster than I thought!!!!!

Day 2…

I’m standing in the hall, chilling, talking to my coworker, shooting the 💩 and I see her coming up the hall and with ONE HAND she signs “How are you “ONE HAND YALL!!! Oh, so we fancy now? No worries, I quickly respond.. Fine, thank you! BOOM, ya girl ain’t slow and she kept it going. So the teacher I’m talking with… looks confused, I casually said, “OH, I’m learning how to sign”. ::inserts a Cardi B dance move::

Later that day…

I have a small 4th period… Well, it’s not really small, but over half of them, I’ve taught already so today, guess what I did? I taught them how to sign. Well, I taught them what I knew. THEY WERE EXCITED!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? KIDS EXCITED ABOUT SIGNING!!!!! I had them do the motions first and then asked them what they thought it meant. YALL… the things they thought it meant were so funny but the one thing I can share is, most of them thought I was saying, get out your book and read…but anyway…we made a deal that what I learn, I would teach that. How cool is that?

I was so excited this morning when I woke up because I wanted to know what new thing she was going to teach me today. I didn’t learn anything new but she stopped in front of me and said.. Do you have something to ask me and I practiced asking HER, How are you? She did show me how to EXPRESS how hungry I am and how to do a growling stomach. Wait, that means I DID learn something new. ::inserts a different Cardi B dance move::

I AM SO EXCITED to be learning something new!!! I don’t know if this is the MY REASON or not but I hope my friends know they have to learn to sign now so we can be bad in public when we’re together!
