2019 US Open Update: Day 6, Round 3 (Women’s Singles)

2019 US Open Update:

— Osaka reminds the world why she is No. 1, and wins a bunch more fans in the process. She dismantled Gauff with merciless precision, but showed immense class after it was over, helping to reassure her youthful opponent to take solace in an amazing journey through this year’s tournament. Coco has a bright future, for sure, but there is much work to be done … with the serve, the forehand … and of course natural improvements that will come with age and experience.
— Townsend had the net covered plush with her superb net rush … end to end.
— Very gutsy win for American Ahn, who perseveres through injury to oust Ostapenko.
— Mertens has all the answers against Andrea.
— A decidedly defensive Dane gets overpowered by Bianca’s blast blowing in from Canada.
— Vekic was clearly in no mood to put up with Putintseva.
— Kiki goes down in flames, so there no prospect for a Mertens vs. Bertens semifinal.
— Anett bows out before she even breaks a sweat.
