In a move that should send shock waves throughout the NFL, Josh Gordon has been traded to the New England Patriots for a 2019 5th round pick.
In 41 career appearances, Gordon is averaging 17.3 yards per catch. The last time a receiver of his caliber still in his prime was paired Tom Brady, the Patriots went undefeated. The 27-year-old Gordon will bring a different dimension to New England’s passing game, assuming he can stay on the field. The Patriots will pay him the remaining $697,058 on his 2018 contract.
Gordon’s talent has also come with a substance abuse issue that has clouded what could have been a hall of fame caliber career. He has been suspended by the NFL for most of his time in the league because of multiple drug violations. Maybe this will be the new start that he needs, but if it isn’t the Patriots can move on without having given up much for him.
