Harvey Mason Jr. a producer and good friend of Aretha Franklin, has been tasked with putting together a movie about the Queen Of Soul.
Franklin died on Thursday at her home in Detroit, she was 76. Her publicist, Gwendolyn Quinn, said the cause of death was advanced pancreatic cancer that she had been battling for some time. While still in mourning Mason Jr. briefly talked about how he would go about putting this monumental task together. “Going forward, what will be foremost in my mind is, ‘What would Aretha do here? What would Aretha want here?’ “Mason said, “She will always be in the front of my mind as I make decisions on the film.” Franklin herself chose Jennifer Hudson to play her in the role.
The movie has been in the works since 2010 but has never gained traction. Mason Jr., who collaborated with Aretha Franklin on several albums and has worked with other superstars like Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Whitney Houston and Britney Spears, has made it his personal mission to get this done. “My duty is to do something that really honors Aretha and treats her in the manner I have been accustomed to dealing with her. I have a good feel for what she likes and doesn’t like. My whole goal is to do something … her fans would be proud of and something that stands up to her legacy.”
