Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Los Angeles Rams and running back Todd Gurley have agreed to a four-year, $60 million contract extension, including $45 million in guarantees.
This makes Gurley, by far, the highest-paid running back in the NFL on a long-term deal. Before signing the new extension, Gurley still had two years remaining on his rookie deal, as the Rams previously picked up his fifth-year option during the off-season. Still unknown are the full details regarding Gurley’s new deal, especially how it relates to the $45 million in guaranteed money. Is it fully guaranteed? What are the signing bonus and base salaries details? And further, are there roster bonuses included? What appears clear, however, is that the total is $60 million for four years on a new money average of $15 million.
Based on what we know, Gurley has secured the first ultra-lucrative long-term running back deal since Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson each signed big contracts in 2011.
