The Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended Canelo Alvarez after he tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol which has been linked to contaminated meat in Mexico.
Canelo is scheduled to meet middleweight world champion Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin on May 5th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, which will be a rematch to their hugely controversial draw in September. Both boxers agreed to random drug testing by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association. Canelo tested positive back in February on two separate tests for trace amounts of clenbuterol.
The fight is now in jeopardy and up will up to the commission who could suspend him further after the April 10th meeting in which he has been scheduled to appear.
