Two years ago Eric Reid knelt alongside Colin Kaepernick during his protest, and now he feels he is being overlooked by NFL teams because of it.
Reid expressed his feeling on twitter saying, “the notion that I can be a great signing for your team for cheap, not because of my skill set but because I’ve protested systemic oppression, is ludicrous. If you think is, then your mindset is part of the problem too.”
Reid did acknowledge that kneeling during the anthem may not be the most advantageous for his career. “This has been fueled by my faith in God,” he said. “That’s the only reason I do it. You can’t serve God and money. So if I’m not on a team next year, I’ll be at home unhappy that I’m not on a team. But I’ll be satisfied that I did what I believed was right. And that’s being a voice for the voiceless and standing up for the oppressed.”
We are still fairly early in the process but many eyes will be watching to see if the men that led the protest will be forced out of the league for their stance.
