Pelicans Star DeMarcus Cousins To Undergo Season Ending Surgery

The Washington Post is reporting that Cousins will undergo surgery to repair his torn left Achilles’ tendon he suffered Friday night in the final seconds of New Orleans’ 115-113 victory over the Houston Rockets.

The injury will sideline Cousins for a minimum of the remainder of this season and will more than likely carryover into next season even putting his career at risk. Cousins is an unrestricted free agent this summer for the first time in his career and his game would have dictated that he receive a massive contract. Hehas fit right in alongside superstar teammate Anthony Davis both on and off the court. Both GM Dell Demps and Head coach Alvin Gentry futures with the organization are tied to the Pelicans having a good playoff run, and Cousins outstanding play had them headed in that direction.

The Pelicans were 6 games above .500 sitting in the 6th seed at the time of the injury. “We’re scared about it, I feel horrible for him. Everything that he’s done, and what he’s tried to do for us this year and what he’s made himself and the improvements in all areas that he’s made on and off the court has just been great, ,” Gentry said after the injury,” “ I don’t want that to happen to a guy that’s trying to better himself.”
