ESPN anchor Jemele Hill is parting ways with SC6 and will join ESPN branch The Undefeated.
ESPN anchor Jemele Hill is leaving the prime slot 6:00 PM SC6 edition of SportsCenter and will join the staff of The Undefeated. The Undefeated is an ESPN subsite that combines sports, race, politics and culture, and other additional topics. Reports are that Hill asked ESPN management for the change. She is set to leave SC6 this February.
In February of 2017, ESPN rebranded SportsCenter as SC6 with Jemele Hill and Michael Smith as the new anchors. This past September, Hill famously became the subject of a national conversation in response to a series of tweets regarding comments about Donald Trump — including one where she referred to the Trump as “a white supremacist.” A White House spokesperson called for Hill’s firing, as Trump also responded to Hill via Twitter. ESPN then released a statement staying Hill’s comments “do not represent the position of ESPN” and subsequently suspended Hill for two weeks for violating the company’s social media policy.
