Black Thought unleashed an ill 10-minute freestyle on Hot 97 that has the world buzzing.
After Black Thought slayed his Funkmaster Flex freestyle on Hot 97 this week, The Roots MC quickly became the #1 trending Twitter topic. Reactions to the 10-minute lyrical onslaught poured in heavily from both peers and fans alike. Diddy even dubbed the set the “greatest freestyle in Hip Hop history.”
Friday, the Philly MC — whose real name Tarik Trotter — chatted with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon! being interviewed as many stars have. In the conversation, the good friends (and co-workers) talked about the freestyle and Thought confirmed it was absolutely off the top.
Fallon asked, “How in the heck do you do that? That was all freestyle?” to which Black Thought replied, “Yeah, yeah.”
The Hip Hop icon then details his thought process going into the moment.
“I planned on doing 10 to 15 minutes,” he said. “Here’s the thing — Funkmaster Flex Hot 97 freestyles — it’s an iconic moment. It’s super meaningful for a rapper to get that platform. In recent weeks, recent months, I’ve been checking out videos and the bar has been set kind of high. People go on for six, eight, nine minutes or so.”
