Big Al’s NFL Picks – Week 5

First month is over – pretenders can step back

Last year I out to a big early streak – not this year. I have seen mixed results as teams settle their identities, get into true game shape, develop cohesion amongst the units,  and adjust to injuries, I am coming back!

(Home Team in CAPS)

Patriots over BUCS

Buccaneers are coming off clutch win against the Giants. Brady tried his magic last week but couldn’t pull out a win. New England’s defense it’s a lot worse than I thought but have a lot of faith and Tom Brady.

Panthers @ LIONS

Panthers’ got a big win in New England. Detroit come off an impressive defensive effort. Cam has to not give  the ball to Detroit defense. I think Panthers can stop the Lions from running the ball and make Matt Stafford beat them. They will stop Stafford.

49ers @ COLTS

Colts are a young team and the 49ers are inconsistent. I expect 49ers defense to hold the Colts offense in check. It will be a close game but I expect San Francisco to put enough points on the board to come out with a win

Tennessee’s defense was exposed last week by Houston.  Also, It doesn’t look like Marcus Mariota will play. Without him I think Miami’s defense can stop the Tennessee running game. At home Cutler should be able to make enough plays against Tennessee.

Jets over BROWNS

I’m scared of picking the Jets here. The Jets got a couple of home wins – Dolphins and Jaguars so we can’t tell how good they are. The Jets have been able to run and the Browns defense is not good on the pass.. That could mean the Jets will be scoring – so will DeShone Kizer make enough plays? I’m going with Jets.

Bills over BENGALS

Andy Dalton and A.J. Green seem to be clicking again. The Bills have to be one of the two big surprises in the league, along with the Jets. They got a great win in Atlanta last week. The Bills defense is looking good. That’s two big wins in a row. I suspect they keep it going against this Bengals team.

GIANTS over Chargers

The battle of two winless team. Neither team is going anywhere. Another interesting story line is Eli Manning against Philip Rivers, both quarterbacks came out the same time in the NFL draft. Odell Beckham still has a jacked up a finger and the ankle still don’t look right. I think the long trip hurts San Diego. Going with the home team on this one, the Giants have been really close on a couple of games.

STEELERS over Jags

I can’t ever seem to get this Jaguars team right. Leonard Fournettte looks like a good runner. The Steelers could shut him down though and then what? I am not a believer in Blake Bortles. Even against a Steelers team that has been dealing with some controversy recently should have enough offense against Jacksonville. After four games, I’m expecting a breakout game from Le’Veon Bell fand the Steelers running attack.a running game when they were determined to do so?

EAGLES over Cardinals

Carson Wentz’s had been good – tough and good decision-making. The Cardinals can’t run and that is  bad recipe with an old QB.  Expect the Eagles to get to Palmer. If the Eagles keep with their running game – LeGarrette Blount they will beat down Arizona.

RAMS over Seahawks

This should be one of the better games of the week. After a very impressive second half against the Cowboys I’m curious to see how Todd Gurley looks against the Seattle defense Can the Seahawks defense save Seattle season and reclaim the division? If not the Rams will have positioned themselves as the best team in the division.

RAIDERS over Ravens

Do I die for the Ravens. If they lose this game they can start scouting the NFL draft. Flacco has looked terrible. I expect the Raiders’ defense to put the Ravens on lock. Will  E.J. Manuel hold it down for Derek Carr against the Ravens?  Hopefully it doesn’t get ugly quick.

COWBOYS over Packers

A payback game after Cowboys lost last year’s playoff game to Green Bay, They have another opportunity to right their ship at home. Dallas has been dominated by the opposing defenses in their two losses They have dealt with injuries on defense which should change this week. I am looking for their running game to continue to pick it up and home and be better by getting first downs to keep their defense off the field.

Chiefs oiver TEXANS

Here is a question many around the NFL is asking, “Is Kansas City for real?” They are the only undefeated team and have been doing it with a simple recipe of quality running game, limited turnovers, and a solid defense.  This game will be one of the better games of the week. Deshawn Watson has been very impressive. He might be this year’s Dak Prescott.

Vikings @ BEARS

If Bradfford comes back, Minnesota should get their offense working again. If he doesn’t return, even without Dalvin Cook toting the rock,  I expect Minnesota’s defense to give your Mitch Trubisky some trouble. Without Brafford, it will be a close game.
