Rock Legend Tom Petty Dies

Iconic Rock N’ Roll musician Tom Petty has passed away at the age of 66.

Rocker Tom Petty died Monday of an apparent heart attack. He was at a  Los Angeles hospital, being rushed there Sunday after he was found unconscious and in cardiac arrest in his home in Malibu.

He was then taken to UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica after Los Angeles County Fire Department emergency medical personnel attempted to revive him, later pronouncing him dead.

The county fire department has confirmed that they rushed to a Malibu home shortly before 11 p.m. on Sunday, in response to a call regarding an unconscious patient in cardiac arrest.

Petty, a grandfather, just wrapped up a 40th-anniversary tour in September, playing arenas, festivals and a few stadiums

Petty, 66, came to fame in the rock band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, later launching a supremely successful solo career as well.

Here’s my all-time favorite Tom Petty song, in honor of my brother Terrence Vance, who turned me onto to Petty when we were 12-years-old!

“I’m thinking it may be the last trip around the country,” Petty told Rolling Stone in December before the tour kicked off in April.

“It’s very likely we’ll keep playing, but will we take on 50 shows in one tour? I don’t think so. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was thinking this might be the last big one. We’re all on the backside of our 60s. I have a granddaughter now I’d like to see as much as I can.

“I don’t want to spend my life on the road. This tour will take me away for four months. With a little kid, that’s a lot of time.”

In his final tweet on September 29, Petty thanked fans for supporting the tour.
