Iconic Hip Hop group ‘A Tribe Called Quest’ performed its last show by that name at Bestival 2017.
Fans at Bestival 2017 appear to have been witness to history. During A Tribe Called Quest’s set at the England-based music festival, Q-Tip advised the crowd they were seeing the final show by the group.
“A Tribe Called Quest, we suffered a blow,” he stated after halting their performance of “Whateva Will Be,” according to NME. “We lost our boy Phife Dawg. This is gonna be our last show as A Tribe Called Quest, ever.”
This announcement isn’t a total surprise as their latest run of shows has been referred to as a swan song for Tribe. Its multiple stops in the past few months have been categorized as their final show in each respective city.
If this is actually the end for Tribe, the legendary crew went out in style. The Native Tongues brothas celebrated the life of Phife Dawg in 2016 by releasing their first album in over 18 years, We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service, which generally received rave reviews.
While the Tribe that Hip Hop fans have come to know and love are technically done, another iteration of the group could emerge to continue its legacy. Last year, Q-Tip teased a new version of ATCQ during an interview.
“Stay tuned for any other incarnation,” he advised BBC Radio 1. “We don’t intend on stopping because that was Phife’s M.O.”
