DeShone Kizer Trying Avoid A Tombstone

The Cleveland Browns have named DeShone Kizer their starting quarterback. Now he must avoid becoming the latest in a long line of Browns’ QBs in the grave.

Enter, DeShone Kizer, the rookie second-round pick from Notre Dame, recently named Cleveland’s opening day starter by head coach Hue Jackson. Great for Kizer! However, there is one huge, smelly, florescent, flashing, pink elephant in the room of which Kizer must be aware. He’ll be the 27th starting quarterback for the Browns since 1999.

qb

That number seems even higher when you consider the Indianapolis Colts have had just 8 quarterbacks start at least one game during that span, the Packers 5, and the Patriots 5!

It’s no secret that the Cleveland Browns have a long history of failed quarterback experiments. Honestly, can you think of the last Browns’ signal-caller to have long-term success? Bernie Kosar in the late 80’s maybe? Certainly, no Cleveland QB since the franchise’s return to the NFL in 1999, can be considered above-standard.

Here’s the full list of Cleveland quarterbacks — and their records — since the franchise re-entered the league as an expansion team in 1999:
