John McCain Diagnosed With Aggressive Brain Cancer

Senator John McCain has been diagnosed with a brain tumor known as a glioblastoma.

This is the same type of brain tumor that took the lives of John Kennedy and Bo Biden son of former vice president Joe Biden.  McCain went in to have surgery to remove a blot clot above his left eye when the tumor was discovered and removed.  Glioblastomas are a type of cancer that forms in the brain and are the most aggressive of the brain tumors with only 4% of the patients living more than 5 years.  These types of tumors grow quickly and spread rapidly.  McCain and his family have been open with the public and have released a statement saying in part that options “may include a combination of chemotherapy and radiation.”

McCain ran for president in 2008 where he lost to Barack Obama after selecting then Alaska governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate. He was also a prisoner of war after being shot down during the Vietnam war in 1967.

Support for McCain has poured out from all over the globe most notably from his former opponent Barack Obama who tweeted, “John McCain is an American hero & one of the bravest fighters I’ve ever known. Cancer doesn’t know what it’s up against. Give it hell, John”.
