The Notorious B.I.G. will officially have a Brooklyn basketball court named in his honor.
City Councilman Robert Cornegy has been working to honor his former childhood neighbor for quite some time. Cornegy’s vision has finally come to fruition.
Per a New York Daily News report, after several years of effort, Cornegy has organized for a basketball court located in a Brooklyn playground be renamed after Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious B.I.G aka Biggie Smalls.
“This honor is very personal to me,” City Councilman Cornegy told the New York Daily News. “Twenty years later, this comes full circle, this renaming of the basketball courts in his honor.”
The basketball court is located in the Crispus Attucks Playground in Biggie’s home of Bedford-Stuyvesant.
The good news comes years after Cornegy tried to have a strip of St. James Place, a street that runs through what is now called Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, named for B.I.G.
Residents in the newly gentrified Brooklyn neighborhood previously shot down the idea because of the content of Biggie’s music and his drug-dealing history.
The renaming ceremony for the court will be held in early August.
