Former UNC star Rashad McCants was jeered during the BIG3 weekend in Charlotte.
The Big3 was in Charlotte Sunday. Rashad McCants was the No. 1 selection by the Trilogy in the inaugural draft for Ice Cube’s new 3-on-3 League. However, North Carolina fans know him for other reasons.
McCants, who won a National Championship with the Tar Heels in 2005, is now best known in the state for alleging that tutors attended classes and completed his classwork, as he took bogus classes while he was at North Carolina. The NCAA has been investigating these allegations of academic fraud for three years.
Boos and heckles of “Snitch!” rained out at Spectrum Center. McCants, who scored 13 points as the Trilogy defeated the 3 Headed Monsters 50-37, apparently was oblivious to it.
“I don’t remember hearing no boos,” McCants said afterward.
Only, McCants also acknowledged it might not have been the warmest of receptions.
“You always feel that connection with the hometown crowd, but apparently due to the media and everything that I’m really standing for and things that I want to really see changing, not a lot of people agree with it,” he said. “We ignore all that because we’re here for a bigger purpose. Injustice is injustice and justice is justice. And when things are going bad and no one’s standing for it, there’s got to be somebody to do it. For me, that’s what I’m here for, to make sure everything is done the right way.”
Sooooo… he didn’t hear them, but he explained why he heard them?
Either way, hopefully the truth will come to light soon enough.
