Are Tidal’s 4:44 Ads Promoting A New Jay Z Album?
There has been growing suspicion of Jay Z planning to release a new album this year, his first since 2013’s mildly disappointing Magna Carta Holy Grail. He is also headlining a number of festivals this coming September, beginning with his own Made In America. Also, longtime collaborator Swizz Beats recently teased a new Jay Z project. And now this…Jay’s streaming service Tidal is continuously running mysterious ads that just might be promoting a forthcoming album from Hov.
The ads, which read “4:44,” have been appearing on Hip Hop-centric music and culture sites like Complex, 2DopeBoyz, and The Undefeated all morning. Although they do not directly mention Tidal, the source code for the images includes the phrase ““tidal-444.” The filenames for all the other display ads reference the names of the respective companies. Meanwhile, the same “4:44″ ad has appeared in at least one NYC subway stop this week — specifically the Jay St…get it?
So is a new Jay Z album called 4:44? Or is he dropping a single titled “4:44″? It sure seems like these ads are, at the very least, tied to early promotion of his new album rollout in some form or fashion. We’ll know in due time..
