Alabama linebacker is a force to be reckoned with in the middle and a top tier prospect in the 2017 NFL Draft.
School: Alabama. Ht: 6-1 Wt: 240
Foster is an elite athlete with top-end explosion. At a rock-solid 6-1, 240 he has ideal size for an inside linebacker. Foster is a relentless, aggressive tackler and arrives to the football in a bad mood. He may be the most feared hitter in college football. Combines quick diagnostic skills and athleticism to make plays all over the field. He aggressively takes on blockers and shows the ability to shed and explode to the football. A leader by example, as he is one of the hardest working players on the entire Alabama team. Foster is a quarterback and an extension of the coach on the defense.
Occasionally, Foster can be athletic and aggressive to his own detriment. His keen pursuit angles leave little margin for error and, at times, he can get a bit off balance when approaching the ball carrier, flailing his arms to keep his balance while throttling down to change direction.
Experienced quarterbacks can manipulate Foster with their eyes and he’ll lose track of receivers around him, closing the gap between them only after the ball is being thrown. While this can result in some big collisions (and passes broken up), Foster can improve his coverage with greater route awareness and patience.
Reuben Foster is the latest in a growing line of highly-rated Alabama inside linebackers, so you’ll hear the comparisons to his predecessors. However, he is a more explosive athlete than former Tide backers Reggie Ragland, C.J. Mosley and Trey DePriest.
Foster is the rare modern inside linebacker that is a true difference-maker with a true possibility of being a top-5 pick. Without regard to position value, Foster is easily one of the better 3 players eligible for the 2017 NFL Draft.
