Meet The Prospect: Deshaun Watson

Next up in our ‘Meet The Prospect’ series, we take a look at Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson.

School: Clemson.  Ht: 6-2   Wt: 215

Strengths

Watson, first and foremost, is a natural and confident leader. It’s obvious his teammates enjoy playing with, and for, him. He is a plus athlete, with the ability to escape traffic with his legs. A threat as a runner and scrambler. Adept at keeping his eyes up field as he flees the pocket. Shows accuracy on every passing level and throws a beautiful deep ball. Has very good arm strength and releases a tight, catchable ball. Is at his best with the game on the line.

Weaknesses

Watson will need to improve reading defenses. He’ll make baffling decisions with the football at times. Watson has inconsistencies in his mechanics, which leads to inaccuracy and turnovers. Must take better care if the football. Has a slight frame that may be filled out already. He’s not a guy you want to start from day one, giving him the opportunity to mature into a NFL caliber signal caller.

2017 NFL Draft Positional Rankings

Overall

A former five-star recruit from Gainesville, GA, Watson absolutely lived up to that billing during his time at Clemson. The junior is poised and mature as a leader and remains calm under pressure. If a team is patient with him early and plays to his strengths, Watson can be a productive starer for a long time.
